The story of Pokemon – Versione Smeraldo is set in the fictional region of Kanto. The player takes control of a young trainer who is embarking on a journey to become the best Pokemon trainer in the world. The game begins with the player waking up in their home town. After getting dressed, they head out to explore the town and meet some of the locals. After talking to them, the player learns that there is a Pokemon tournament being held in the nearby city. The player decides to enter the tournament and begins to train their Pokemon. They eventually make it to the final round of the tournament, where they face off against the champion. After a hard fought battle, the player emerges victorious and is awarded a prize. The player then returns home and continues to train their Pokemon. They eventually become the best trainer in the region and are ready to take on the world..
