As she progresses through the game, Samus discovers that the Space Pirates, a rival organization, are behind the energy field and the Metroids. She is also forced to battle against the Space Pirates several times in order to stop them from taking over the planet. In the end, Samus defeats the Space Pirates and restores peace to the planet. She then returns to her home planet, and continues to serve as a bounty hunter..
